Course Details:
5th Grade Social Science (Science & Social Studies Combo Teacher)
This role is a self-contained content position, where the teacher is responsible for delivering both 5th grade science and social studies instruction. This means you will build deep relationships with a consistent group of students while teaching two core content areas, integrating literacy, inquiry, and critical thinking across both subjects.

Your Role as a 5th Grade Social Science Teacher

📚 Planning & Instruction

  • Teach 5th grade science and social studies on a rotating A/B block schedule (3 of 4 classes daily)
  • Design and deliver standards-aligned, inquiry-based lessons across both content areas
  • Integrate literacy, writing, and critical thinking into science and social studies instruction
  • Engage in Unit Internalization using school-adopted curriculum and submit weekly lesson plans
  • Collaborate with grade-level and content teams during daily planning and PLCs
  • Track and analyze student academic and behavioral data to drive instruction
  • Facilitate 1 Personalized Learning Time (PLT) intervention block (ELA or Math support)
  • Implement ELL accommodations and differentiated instruction to meet diverse learner needs
  • Use instructional technology and data systems to monitor student progress

🏫 School Duties & Expectations

  • Maintain an 8:00 am–4:00 pm workday, including arrival/dismissal duties
  • Participate in weekly staff huddles, grade-level meetings, and PD sessions
  • Support lunch duty and other rotating responsibilities
  • Attend 3 weeks of summer training and biweekly after-school PD
  • Contribute to family engagement events throughout the year

🤝 Student Mentorship & Culture

  • Build strong relationships with students as a core content teacher across two subjects
  • Facilitate Morning Mindfulness (SEL) and support advisory structures
  • Uphold school-wide culture systems and behavior expectations
  • Lead or support student activities (Walk & Talk, Club Days, field trips)
  • Track student behavior and communicate with families using Kickboard
  • Celebrate student success in grade-level community meetings

Role Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • Ability to obtain a teaching permit if not currently licensed
  • Authorization to work in the U.S. without sponsorship
  • Must pass MNPS background check

Preferred Qualifications

  • Active Tennessee teaching license (Science, Social Studies, or Elementary endorsement preferred)
