STEM Preparatory Academy is seeking an exceptional Academic Dean of Humanities to join our high school leadership team. We are looking for a mission-driven instructional leader who believes all students can achieve at the highest levels and is committed to developing highly effective teachers who deliver rigorous, engaging, and equitable instruction.

As an Academic Dean, you will play a critical leadership role in driving student achievement through instructional coaching, data-driven decision-making, and professional learning. You will support teachers in mastering their craft while fostering a culture of excellence, inclusiveness, joy, and continuous improvement.

Your Impact as a Leader

Academic Deans are deeply embedded instructional leaders who shape teaching and learning across the campus.

Instructional Leadership (Primary Focus)

  • Lead the instructional vision for Humanities departments, including History, World Languages, and Electives

  • Conduct weekly classroom observations and provide actionable, standards-aligned feedback

  • Coach teachers through lesson internalization, instructional planning, and execution

  • Facilitate professional learning communities (PLCs), data meetings, and instructional planning cycles

  • Support teachers in implementing rigorous, grade-level curriculum and assessments

  • Analyze student achievement data and drive strategic interventions

  • Lead Intellectual Prep Protocols and Data-Driven Practice Protocols

  • Support teacher onboarding, development, evaluation, and retention

  • Serve as an instructional exemplar and model best practices

Professional Learning & Adult Development

  • Design and facilitate high-quality professional development aligned to school goals

  • Create opportunities for teachers to practice and refine instructional techniques

  • Build teacher capacity through coaching cycles, feedback, and professional learning

  • Foster a culture of continuous improvement, collaboration, and reflective practice

  • Hold adults accountable while maintaining strong relationships and high levels of support

Data-Driven Leadership

  • Maintain content-area dashboards to monitor weekly, quarterly, and annual performance

  • Analyze formative and summative assessment data to identify trends and instructional priorities

  • Lead weekly data meetings that build teacher ownership of student outcomes

  • Support teachers in setting goals and tracking progress toward end-of-year targets

  • Celebrate student growth and achievement while responding swiftly to areas of need

Culture Alignment & Student Support

While instruction remains the primary focus, Academic Deans also support:

  • Strong classroom culture and management systems

  • Student attendance, engagement, and academic success

  • Family communication and partnerships

  • Schoolwide culture initiatives and celebrations

School-Wide Leadership Responsibilities

As a member of the school leadership team, you will:

  • Build strong relationships with students, staff, families, and community partners

  • Collaborate with school and network leaders to drive continuous improvement

  • Support teacher recruitment, selection, and hiring

  • Facilitate quarterly family engagement and academic workshops

  • Support school operations, testing, scheduling, and event coordination

  • Maintain visibility during arrival, dismissal, transitions, and other key school moments

  • Serve as a liaison or proxy for the Principal when appropriate

  • Attend evening and weekend family and community events as needed

  • Model STEM Prep's core values: Integrity, Imagination, Drive, Collaboration, and Inquiry


Who We're Looking For

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Education or a related field

  • Active Tennessee teaching license (or ability to transfer licensure from another state)

  • Minimum of three years of successful teaching experience in a tested subject area

  • Demonstrated content expertise in History, World Languages, and/or Elective courses

  • School leadership experience or equivalent experience leading adults and teams

  • Ability to hold adults accountable while building and maintaining strong relationships

  • Willingness to engage in difficult conversations and resolve conflicts effectively

  • Strong organizational and project-management skills

  • Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, belonging, and anti-racist practices

  • Ability to manage multiple priorities with a student-first mindset

  • Flexibility to work outside traditional school hours as leadership responsibilities require

Preferred Qualifications

  • Outstanding performance as a classroom teacher with results exceeding district and state expectations

  • Proven success coaching adult learners and improving instructional practice

  • Experience designing and facilitating impactful professional development

  • Demonstrated success leading teams toward ambitious performance goals

  • Strong family and community engagement experience that drives student success

  • Master's degree in Education, Curriculum & Instruction, Leadership, or a related field
