Position Overview (Middle School)
Paraprofessionals at STEM Preparatory Academy – Middle School play a vital role in supporting the academic growth, behavior, and emotional development of students with exceptionalities 🌱. We rely on paraprofessionals to be emotionally consistent, proactive, and student-centered in order to maintain strong classroom culture and maximize learning.
This is a high-impact academic role with a strong emphasis on RTI (Response to Intervention) Specifically for this Role in Math. Paraprofessionals regularly pull small groups, provide targeted math instruction to close learning gaps, and support students using data-driven strategies aligned to Tennessee academic standards.
Successful paraprofessionals model professionalism, optimism, and urgency, maintain high expectations for all students, and contribute to a structured, well-managed middle school learning environment.
Minimum Qualifications
- Enjoys working with middle school–aged students
- Interested in beginning or growing a career in education
- Previous experience working with youth (school, tutoring, mentoring, or community-based)

Key Responsibilities
- Foster a motivating, supportive, and learning-centered classroom culture grounded in consistency and structure
- Support Math RTI instruction, including:
- Pulling small groups for targeted math intervention
- Reinforcing grade-level and foundational math concepts
- Using student data to close skill gaps and monitor progress 📊
- Assist Special Education and General Education teachers with instruction for scholars with exceptionalities
- Provide 1:1 and small-group academic support, while also circulating to support the overall classroom environment
- Implement and monitor student behavior supports aligned to IEPs and BIPs
- Maintain daily data tracking using Purposeful Active Monitoring checklists
- Promote independence and growth in academic, social, and self-help skills
- Support students during unstructured times (transitions, hallways, arrival/dismissal) while maintaining school-wide expectations
- Follow Adaptive Education and Inclusion culture guidelines and checklists
- Respond to feedback from observations and implement coaching support with urgency
- Participate in:
- Special Education / Student Supports meetings
- Weekly team meetings and daily morning huddles
- School-based professional development (including one weekly session until 5:15pm)
- Attend weekly coaching meetings with the BCBA or Adaptive Education Teacher
- Rotate student assignments weekly to build capacity supporting a variety of learner needs
- Communicate proactively with families regarding student progress, including:
- Printing and sending weekly data reports
- Weekly family communication via calls or texts 📞
- Support additional responsibilities as assigned, including testing coverage and language translation
